A front line Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in the November 8 governorship election, Chief George Moghalu has assured the people of Anambra State of adequate security.
Chief Moghalu who was speaking with journalists in his Nnewi residence on Wednesday said that the importance of security of lives and property can not be over emphasized noted that high premium would be placed on the security of Ndi-Anambra and residents alike.
He said as a matter of fact that present security situation in Anambra State calls for concern.
The LP governorship aspirant said that part of the measures he would adopt to checkmate insecurity in the state is to reorganize the local government area vigilante group noting that he would not compromise on giving the operatives adequate training, pay them well and as well put in place insurance scheme for the vigilante operatives.
“Basic infrastructure would be put in place for the group to make it attractive, so that graduates can volunteer to be part of the group. We have enough military and paramilitary personnels in the state to assist in the training of the operatives.
“We will also encourage the communities to be pro-active on the issue of security and other allied matters, the truth is that the leadership of every community knows the bad eggs among them, we will encourage the communities to be part of the efforts to secure their environment by strengthening the vigilante group.
“Traditional institutions would be encouraged and strengthened under my watch as Anambra State governor, at the moment, the state government takes all the money that belongs to the local government areas, so how do we expect the LGA chairmen to perform their civic responsibilities to their different council areas.
“Security is technologically driven all over the world, under my watch as the governor of Anambra State, our dear state would not be left behind, I believe that no amount is too much to be invested in the security of lives and properties.
“Organizing investment summit without effective security arrangements is a share waste of time and resources because the targeted investors will not take their investment to insecure environment. Adequate security must be in place for such moves to work.
“These are parts of what I would do differently as governor of Anambra State if the people of the state decide to engage me as their governor. There is nothing bad in putting CCTV cameras at strategic points on the roads across the state,” he stressed.
Chief Moghalu, as part of finding a lasting solution to the issue of insecurity across the South East appealed to the government at the center to adopt a political solution to the issue of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) currently being detained by DSS.
“I have prayed and begged for the release of MNK, political solution will be the most appropriate, there is so much anger in the polity, killing ourselves just to make a point, this is not acceptable,” the LP leading guber hopeful declared.
The former NIWA boss who said he has continued to embarked on consultations with relevant persons about his governorship ambition noted that the response has been positive and encouraging.
Chief Moghalu a very disciplined, meticulous and principled personality while commenting on the assumed endorsement of a particular aspirant by the Obidient group said that he is not bothered about that noting that the same group and other groups have also came to him for the same thing.
“Honestly, I am not bothered about endorsement thing, let all the groups endorse a person but let me run and win the party primary and the November 8 governorship election. Endorsement can only make meaning if you win the election,” he concluded.
