This is contained in a law enacted by the Anambra State House of Assembly. The law is to control burial and funeral ceremony activities in the state.
Anambra State governor Chukwuma Soludo, who commended the assembly for the legislation, said: “Anambra Burial Law is a very Progressive law to remove the burden and pressure on the poor as well as liberate women from oppressive practices during burials.
“We celebrate “befitting living” and only a decent funeral.”
By this law, all mortuary attendants are to report to the Ministry of Health of any corpse which has stayed beyond one month from the date it was deposited.
It warned that any person who contravenes the provisions will be fined N100,000 or six months imprisonment or both.
It further stipulated that all burial and funeral ceremonies of indigenous deceased persons in the state shall be registered with the town union of the deceased.
Also, the new law warned against blocking roads and streets during burial ceremonies.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?gdpr=0&client=ca-pub-2023028789149162&output=html&h=300&adk=4287549898&adf=2158825429&w=360&lmt=1706936095&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=8623283848&ad_type=text_image&format=360×300&url=https%3A%2F%2Fthenigerialawyer.com%2Fanambra-bans-public-display-of-caskets-caps-mortuary-storage-at-2-months%2F&fwr=1&pra=3&rh=267&rw=320&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&fa=27&dt=1706936112187&bpp=13&bdt=4563&idt=-M&shv=r20240131&mjsv=m202401290101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D06bd9a19950fee80-228db99240e000ff%3AT%3D1690064131%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DALNI_MbC8skCs4ebnwglGM5u4k6lTU5mHw&gpic=UID%3D00000d040e7e3532%3AT%3D1690064131%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DALNI_MaUaQ3b_8VGnevtHWowzDhtzfQSsw&eo_id_str=ID%3Dbed612196c3467bf%3AT%3D1706831129%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DAA-AfjYSRgOf6GOKi6lJ12o6iGNz&prev_fmts=360×375%2C360x375%2C360x300%2C0x0%2C360x300&nras=4&correlator=2111996588336&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=2052961092.1690064131&ga_sid=1706936109&ga_hid=447424503&ga_fc=1&u_tz=60&u_his=50&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_sd=2&dmc=4&adx=0&ady=3619&biw=360&bih=688&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=44759875%2C44759926%2C44759837%2C44808398%2C95322195%2C95324019%2C95324155%2C95324161&oid=2&psts=AOrYGsnsQu_7598LyZhw8chDatWB9ARFn0sJtrX_sjKhFg6UmgA2MRIdrec0_vWCphN0M2udLIQQIzANFAJ8PGL0EBE&pvsid=3108685907708753&tmod=1837578833&uas=0&nvt=1&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fthenigerialawyer.com%2Fcategory%2Fmetro-news%2F&fc=384&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C688%2C360%2C688&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=128&bc=31&bz=1&psd=W251bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLDNd&ifi=6&uci=a!6&btvi=4&fsb=1&dtd=401https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-2023028789149162&output=html&h=375&slotname=5559997686&adk=3187063327&adf=2788272884&pi=t.ma~as.5559997686&w=360&lmt=1706936095&rafmt=11&format=360×375&url=https%3A%2F%2Fthenigerialawyer.com%2Fanambra-bans-public-display-of-caskets-caps-mortuary-storage-at-2-months%2F&fwr=1&wgl=1&dt=1706936108771&bpp=12&bdt=1147&idt=661&shv=r20240131&mjsv=m202401290101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D06bd9a19950fee80-228db99240e000ff%3AT%3D1690064131%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DALNI_MbC8skCs4ebnwglGM5u4k6lTU5mHw&gpic=UID%3D00000d040e7e3532%3AT%3D1690064131%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DALNI_MaUaQ3b_8VGnevtHWowzDhtzfQSsw&eo_id_str=ID%3Dbed612196c3467bf%3AT%3D1706831129%3ART%3D1706935980%3AS%3DAA-AfjYSRgOf6GOKi6lJ12o6iGNz&prev_fmts=360×375&correlator=2111996588336&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=2052961092.1690064131&ga_sid=1706936109&ga_hid=447424503&ga_fc=1&rplot=4&u_tz=60&u_his=50&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_sd=2&dmc=4&adx=0&ady=2720&biw=360&bih=688&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=44759875%2C44759926%2C44759837%2C44808398%2C95322195%2C95324019%2C95324155%2C95324161&oid=2&pvsid=3108685907708753&tmod=1837578833&uas=0&nvt=1&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fthenigerialawyer.com%2Fcategory%2Fmetro-news%2F&fc=640&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C688%2C360%2C688&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CoeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&cms=2&fu=128&bc=31&bz=1&psd=W251bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLDNd&ifi=2&uci=a!2&btvi=2&fsb=1&dtd=696
