Anambra State Government has advised the people living in flood prone LGAs and communities to begin to immediately move their crops, poultry, fish ponds and domestic animals to safe places.
Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu who gave the advise said it has become imperative to move to avoid being caught unawares by flooding.
He said that the advise followed recent warnings of high rainfall and floods expected this year from Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Sir Nwosu identified Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Onitsha South, Onitsha North, Awka North, Idemili South, Ekwusigo and Ihiala LGAs as flood prone council areas.
He reminded the concerned communities that Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps set up by Gov Charles Soludo is still in place, urging them to move the elderly, women and children to the camps immediately.
Sir Nwosu equally urged them to contact their Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LASEMA) if in doubt.
Nwosu disclosed that the Anambra State Flood Response Committee, led by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, in collaboration with SEMA, will release more advisory in days ahead.
He urged the Transition Committee (TC) chairmen and community leaders in the affected areas to comply with the life-saving directives that will be issued soon.
