Anambra Hotel Attack: We after assailants, says police

From Ifeoma Ejiofor

Anambra State Police Command says the operatives of the command are already working towards the arrest of the gunmen who allegedly killed seven fun seekers in Oba in Idemili South LGA of the state.

The suspects had on Sunday night struck at Porches Hotel, killed seven and abducted seven others including the owner of the facility.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga(DSP) while confirming the incident said, “Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident, but the gunmen had already fled.

“Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury. We have also fully deployed our men to Oba, and operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made.”

Recall that there was pandemonium at Porsche Night club located in Oba, Idemili South LGA, as some yet-to-be-identified armed hoodlums invaded the area and allegedly shot seven persons dead and injured many others.

Sources claimed that the incident happened late night on Sunday when fun seekers were catching some fun at the night club.

An eyewitness who pleaded for anonimity said the gunmen in an attempt to kidnap the owner of the club shot sporadically killing fun seekers and members of Anambra Vigilante Service (AVS) attached to the hotel.

He said, “As a result of the resistance, the gunmen started shooting sporadically, killing many people in the process. They also fatally stabbed one of the security men who resisted them from taking the owner of the night club.”

There are however contradictions in the figure given by eyewitnesses for the killed and kidnapped victims.

The commercial town of Oba has been thrown into a pensive mood as a result of development.

Recall that a popular native was abducted in his hotel facility in the same town not long ago.
