Barr Peter Awah, the Director of Public Prosecution for Anambra State and immediate Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) Ihiala branch, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Sources claimed that the lawyer was killed in his hometown of Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at about 10.00pm.
An eyewitness account claimed that Barr Awah was in his car, talking to someone on a bike, when gunmen in another vehicle intercepted him, dragged him out, and shot him.
The slaint legal practitioner has been described as a brilliant lawyer and a jovial person who was dedicated to justice for the oppressed.
Recall that another prominent lawyer, Chief Jude Oguejiofor Esq was abducted and murdered in Orsumoghu town on 17 January, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command said that it has
began an investigation into the murder of the legal practitioner who until his untimely death was the Secretary of Okija Development Union.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) revealed this in a statement.
Ikenga said that preliminary information reveals that the assailants operating in motorbikes, shot the deceased as he was about to alight his vehicle for safety when he was approached by the Murderers.
The PPRO said that some eyewitnesses have provided details that are already aiding the investigations.
