Breaking: Mayhem erupts at Balogun Market in Lagos state

A free for all macabre scene between mainly the Yoruba and the Igbo traders are ongoing. So many lives have been lost from both sides.

The incident that led to the fight began between two commissioned brokers (Oso afia) of Igbo and Yoruba extraction.

A trader from the market said that both of them cooperated to execute the sales. Trouble began when the Igbo man wanted his share of the money, but his Yoruba colleague refused to share.


An eye witness who refused to give her last name, Ms Chioma said that the face off led to a physical fight.

“During the fight, the Yoruba man stabbed the Igbo man on the side, and the Igbo man pulled out the knife and and stabbed him on the neck.
“That was when hell broke loose as a mob of Yoruba youth chased the Igbo man all the way to the police station.

“When the police saw throng of mob heading towards the police station, they dragged the Igbo man out and handed him to the Yoruba mob, who instantly killed.”

Upon hearing of the cruelty meted to the Igbo man, some Igbo youth attacked the Yoruba man who was fighting with the deceased Igbo.
The Yoruba mob who had gathered themselves into anarchist mob resorted to looting the Igbo shops.

It must be noted that the security reaction was absymal.

Jungle justice, where would Nigerians get justice in this country, seeing that our courts are not reliable any longer.
