An international businessman, Dr. Theo Okeke (Okunenyeife Nnewi) of Dimuso kindred in Umudinkwa, Umudim, Nnewi, of Anambra state, has built a one-kilometer road for his community.
The new road, which was commissioned on Friday, has drainages on either side.
The philanthropist, Dr. Okeke, while speaking with journalists, said that the road project was his way of paying for philanthropy from his parents.
He noted that he has discovered that in the developed clime, development is not left entirely for the government to shoulder and as such decided to replicate same at home.
Dr Okeke insisted that if developmental efforts are carried out individually and collectively in the communities, it wouldn’t be long before the entire society would be positively impacted.
“I am from this community, I started life here. I have been contributing my own quota to development and upliftment of my people through the empowerment of widows, I have also set up a scholarship scheme for the indigent students in the community, my own idea of assisting the people is not to give them food but to teach them how to farm so that they can stand on their feet.” Dr Okeke explained.
Ven. Pat Nweke who was accompanied by Revd Canon Emeka Onwudiwe while leading a prayer session during the commissioning prayed for continuous blessing of God on the philanthropist.
Obi of Uruagu-Nnewi, Obi Afam Obi, Obi of Umudim-Nnewi, Obi Bennett Okafor and Obi of Nnewichi-Nnewi, Obi George Onyekaba while appreciating the international businessman for his philanthropist gesture urged other affluent persons in the industrial town of Nnewi to borrow a leaf from Dr Okeke.
The Nnewi North Local Government Area House of Assembly standard-bearers for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Chidozie Orizu and his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Hon Peter Nwosu applauded Dr. Okeke for his numerous interventions in the community.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by eminent personalities like Chief Ike Onyedika, Chief Maduka Atuenyi, Engr Fab Obi, Chief Sir Emma Okonkwo, Rt. Hon Chukwudi Orizu, Elder Soge Egbuna, Chief Charles Agu Onyeka amongst others.
The former chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Chief Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue was also on ground to ensure that the event went without any hitch.
