The senator representing Anambra South in the red chamber of the National Assembly, Sen Emmanuel C Nwachukwu has debunked the claims that there is an existing agreement that he would not participate in 2027 senatorial polls.
The Media Office of Senator Nwanchukwu cleared the issue on Thursday in a press statement.
The statement reads, “It has become necessary to correct the deliberate misrepresentation of facts contained in a statement credited to the media team of a former Anambra South Senatorial Aspirant regarding a false agreement made during the last Anambra South Senatorial Primaries (Electoral Conclave) and future political intentions of Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu.
“First and foremost, Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu was not “selected” or “handpicked” by Mr Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo. This assertion is false and misleading. During the Electoral Conclave, Senator Emmanuel Nwachukwu was voted for by his fellow Senatorial Aspirants who participated in the process. He won the Electoral Conclave outrightly through a transparent, consultative, and collective decision of party stakeholders.
“Secondly, the agreement reached during the Senatorial Electoral Conclave was on the principle of zoning. It was mutually agreed that the Senatorial ticket would be zoned either by Federal Constituency or by Local Government Area, and that the specific zone will produce the candidate.
“At no point was there any agreement that Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu would not contest in 2027. Any claim suggesting otherwise is entirely fabricated. For clarity, the Electoral Conclave itself was a wise and strategic initiative introduced by Mr Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, before the actual party primaries, with the aim of fostering unity within APGA and reducing the excessive financial burden, bitterness, and post-primary grievances that often trail electoral contests.
“Thirdly, during the governorship campaign, Mr Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, clearly stated that candidates who promise to serve only one term in office are not being truthful, as a single term is grossly insufficient to deliver meaningful, effective, and sustainable representation.
“In this same context, it is important to note that Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu is currently completing the unexpired tenure of the Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, which is less than two years approximately one year and six months.
“This period, by every standard of democratic governance, is not adequate to fully implement a comprehensive legislative agenda, institutionalize constituency projects, or deliver the depth of representation expected by ndi Anambra South.
“The repeated claim that there existed an “agreement” preventing the Senator from recontesting in 2027, allegedly with “executive assent,” is therefore false, unfounded, and malicious.
“We strongly advise ndi Anambra South to disregard all politically motivated narratives, emotional blackmail, and false sentiments being circulated in the build-up to the forthcoming primaries. These narratives do not reflect the true events of the Electoral Conclave and are clearly designed to mislead and destabilize.”
The statement asserted that Sen Nwachukwu remains committed to impactful representation, party unity, and strong alliance to the Gov Charles Soludo Solution led administration.
