Fresh cybercrime charges have been filed against activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi following his recent arrest and detention.
The charges were filed on Friday, December 6, 2024, by the Nigerian Police before a Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti.
Farotimi was arrested on Tuesday, with popular lawyer Afe Babalola alleging that he was defamed by the activist in the former’s new book.
The latest development comes after 16 charges earlier filed against the lawyer by the Police on Wednesday.
In the fresh charges, Farotimi is accused of making defamatory statements on Seun Okinbaloye’s podcast, based on content in his book, ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System’.
He is also accused of maligning and intimidating Babalola on the aforementioned podcast.
Furthermore, the activist is charged with publicizing details of legal actions taken against him during a press conference on December 2, 2024.
