Don’t engage in debt recovery, AVG warns members

The Anambra Vigilant Group,(AVG) has warned its members operating in the state not to partake in debt recovery and anything related to it while discharging their legitimate duties, adding that anyone caught engaging in such act will be dealt with decisively.

This was contained in a press statement issued on Monday by the spokesman of AVG, Mr. Nweke Nweke, made available to journalists.

Nweke said the warning became imperative because of several reports from different communities, alleging that some members of the local security outfit engage in debt recovery.

He advised the men of the outfit to always apply the rules of their engagement while discharging their legitimate duties, noting that their primary assignment was to assist other security agents in curbing the menace of criminal activities in their respective locality.

“It is clear, we are not a debt recovery outfit. Our major duty is to nose down, report any suspicious movement, assist the police and other security agents in apprehending any criminal, as well as handing over anyone arrested to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.

“Henceforth, anyone caught engaging in debt recovery will be dealt with decisively,” AVG warned.

AVG appealed to the President General(PG) of all communities in the state not to use any of their member as a debt recovery agent.

The group’s PRO pointed out that using their men as debt recovery outfit might make AVG lose its credibility.

He lauded the members of the public for believing in AVG, but however solicited more cordial relationships with the people in rural ends in the area of useful information that will assist them in discharging their duties effectively.
