All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ebonyi State chapter yesterday called for the immediate disbandment of Ebubeagu Security Network and stopping it from participating in the activities leading to the 2023 general election.
APGA said that the inspector general of police, IGP Usman Barba has earlier directed that the security group should not participate or play a part in any form in the build up to the election processes.
The publicity secretary of the party, Hon Nwancho, in a statement in Abakaliki accused the state government of plans to attack its deputy governorship candidate, Dr Nkata Chukwu, the Ebonyi South senatorial candidate, Sir Ifeanyi Eleje, a journalist who doubles as special assistant to the governorship candidate on media, Mr Charlse Otu among others.
Hon Nwancho said that the party had suffered intimidation from the government since the inception of the current administration. He maintained that the incumbent government does not have the monopoly of violence saying they would not fold their hands and watch their candidates and core supporters being attacked in any form.
“The party have also written to the commissioner of police in Ebonyi State and other relevant security agencies in Nigeria over such evil plan.
“We wish to let the state government and indeed the general public to know that we have heard and read it from several online publications of the evil plan by the state government and their unguided public utterances by the core supporters of APC led government to attack APGA candidates in Ebonyi South and other political parties in Ebonyi State,” he said.
