Ebonyi: Gunmen kill traditional ruler in Onicha

Gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Ishinkwor community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, HRH Jehoshaphat Ikegwu.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at his palace.

Sources in the community told Daily Sun that the gunmen invaded Ikegwu’s palace and shot him through the window.

Chairman of the local government, Ikechukwu Ogbofia, who confirmed the killing, condemned the incident.

He said the police were investigating the killing and urged the people of the community to remain calm.

Ikegwu’s killing brings the total number of monarchs killed in the state to five.

Last month, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area was killed after he was abducted.

His body was set ablaze by the kidnappers.

About nine suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, but nothing has been heard about them.
