EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Never Investigated Any Case — Daniel Bwala Alleges

Daniel Bwala, a lawyer and aide to PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, has stated that the new EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, does not have experience investigating cases as he lacks a background in law enforcement.

In an interview on Channels TV, Bwala emphasized that the EFCC chairmanship requires someone with a law enforcement or security agency background. He argued Olukoyede did not have power to hold a gun or investigate any case previously.

However, Monday Ubani, former NBA SPIDEL Chairman, disputed Bwala’s claims, insisting that being a lawyer for 22 years with over 5 years experience in law enforcement qualifies Olukoyede for the role.

Ubani stated that the EFCC Act does not specifically mandate continuous service in a security agency as prerequisite. He maintained that Olukoyede meets the ‘cognate experience’ required.

The qualifications of the new EFCC chairman, appointed by President Bola Tinubu to replace suspended EFCC boss Abdulrasheed Bawa, has generated controversy.

Critics like Bwala allege Olukoyede lacks field investigation expertise to head the anti-graft agency. But supporters cite his legal experience and former role at the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering as sufficient.

The fresh debate highlights differing views on the professional background fitting for the sensitive EFCC chairmanship. While Olukoyede’s credentials satisfy legal requirements, critics insist practical investigatory experience is crucial.
