EFCC seals off street near Malami’s Abuja residence

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday cordoned off the Abuja residence of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, restricting movement across the area in a move that quickly drew public attention.

Eyewitnesses said the operatives arrived in multiple buses and strategically positioned themselves along Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street, effectively shutting down access to the street.

The development created a tense atmosphere, with residents left uncertain about the situation.

Movement in and out of the neighbourhood was reportedly halted as security presence intensified. Visitors were turned back, while residents were subjected to strict checks, underscoring the seriousness of the operation.

Although the anti-graft agency did not immediately issue an official statement, its operatives maintained firm control of the vicinity for several hours, signalling what appeared to be a coordinated enforcement action.

The development comes amid ongoing scrutiny surrounding high-profile financial crime investigations, including matters linked to alleged money laundering.

Observers say the operation may not be unconnected to broader efforts to deepen accountability within Nigeria’s political elite.

Meanwhile, the heavy security deployment disrupted normal activities in the otherwise quiet Abuja neighbourhood, with residents expressing concern over the sudden lockdown and its implications.

As of press time, further details regarding the purpose of the operation remained unclear.

However, the action has once again placed the spotlight on the EFCC’s role in tackling corruption and enforcing financial regulations across the country.
