Members of Abuja Scrap Dealers Association in Section C, Abuja International Building Materials Market, Dei – Dei, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have Wednesday, elected new executives to lead and oversee affairs of the association.
In a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election, the position of chairman went to Engr Chibuike Aghaonu, who got 155 votes, to beat his competitors, Peter Okeke and Mike Nwoye who got 107 and two votes respectively. The position of Vice Chairman went to Ejike Okolo who got 183 votes, while his competitor, Chukwuma Ikegbunem got 88 votes.
However, Chinonso Okonkwo Colins, who got 240 votes became the Association’s Welfare Officer, while his challenger, Martins Ike lost with 32 votes. The position of provost went to Nwagbo Nicholas, who got 222 votes, while his co – contestant, Emeka Ben lost with 46 votes.
The positions of Financial Secretary, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relation Officer went to Osita Felix Ifeh, Uchechukwu Iheanacho, Nonso Ugoabulunne, Onyekachi Eke and Ebere Uju respectively unopposed.
The following prominent members who hailed the election for transparency, as well as advised the executives to go about the Association’s leadership with selflessness, fear of God, as well as live up to expectations were, the MD Batos Invest Nig Ltd, Bartholomew Osondu, Prince Eunoch Ibeagwa, one of the chairmanship contestants, Chief Mike Nwoye, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Cosmos Oguekwe
Others were one of the observers, Prince Chukwuma Orabuego, who doubles as the Executive Chairman of Section A, Abuja International Building Materials Market, the former Chairman and Patron of the market, Chief Ezemenakaya, one of the chairmanship contestants, Peter Okeke, who admitted the transparency of the election, the Organising Committee Chairman of the Election, Gozie Ohaka, Director, Engr Chibuike Campaign Organisation, Chima Ohaeri and the BoT Secretary, Obasi Paulinus.
Speaking to journalists shortly after his declaration, the newly elected chairman said: “This place is an industrial zone and we have a lot of fabrication industries here. About 70% onstruction companies in Abuja depend on us for their businesses. But unfortunately electricity supplies have over the time been posing problems to us.
“Based on what we can do, i shall ensure that we partner with the government, so as to have regular electricity supplies. By doing so, we shall contribute immensely toward boosting the economy of this country. I shall ensure that the money allocated to the small scale industries get to us. Although banks charge very high interest for loan, but we shall negotiate with Bank of Industry (BoI), among ithers toward accessing loans easily at affordable rate.”
