Govt begins enforcement of Environmental law in Anambra

Anambra State Government has commenced the full enforcement of all environmental laws in the State.

The State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor PhD revealed this in a press statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

He pointed out that all public and private buildings without functional catchment pits, drainage systems, or any approved means of stormwater control will attract strict penalties.

Mefor said that anyone caught dropping refuse indiscriminately on roads, expressways, or into drainages will be arrested, prosecuted, and fined.

“The indiscriminate disposal of sachet water nylons, PET bottles, plastics, or any other waste materials at locations other than designated litter points is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be fined and prosecuted in accordance with the law.” He asserted.

The penalties according to him ranges from ₦20,000 to ₦1,000,000 for individuals and ₦100,000 to ₦5,000,000 for corporate bodies.
