Group takes campaign against open defecation to Nnewi

Clean Nigeria Campaign(CNC) has taken her advocacy against open defecation to Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Goverment Area of Anambra State.

At Nnewi North Local Goverment Area Secretariat, the visiting team was received by Mrs Maduka Helen, the Head Personnel Management on behalf of the chairman, who welcomed, applauded the team and promised to support them to achieve success.

Clean Nigeria Campaign (CNC) is collaborating with Anambra State RUWASSA to deliver Nnewi North open defecation free.

The campaign was sponsored by FMWR through CNC Secretariat.

In her message the coordinator of CNC represented by the executive director of Creative Minds Centre For Youth and community development Mrs. Ugochi Freeman said that the campaign is in line with SDG Goal 6 which is assess to clean water and sanitation.

Mrs Opara said that her group has the mandate to deliver more council areas across the country open defecation free.

She expressed optimism that Anambra state government would step up the campaign across other LGAs after Nnewi North.

Mr Tochukwu Nwosu, Program Manager RUWASSA in his own speech emphasized the need to clean up Anambra State especially in the area of open defecation.

Mr Tochukwu added that Anambra state has a roadmap to end open defecation by 2025 and the state government has also signed unto the clean Nigeria campaign thereby declaring state of emergency in the WASH sector.

He appealed to community leaders, women leaders and other stakesholders to join forces with her group to Nnewi North Local Goverment Area and indeed the entire state of open defecation.

Mr Tochukwu said that it is incumbent on the council areas and communities to set up taskforce that would ensure that open defecation is done with across the area

The Executive Director (ED) Creative Minds Center For Youths and Community Development, Mrs Ugochi Freeman in her speech pointed out that her group is facilitating the campaign for CNC to rid the society of open defecation with it’s attendant health implications.

She stressed the need for organisations, churches and business concerns to ensure that good toilets with adequate hand washing facilities are put in place.

The Anambra State Hygiene Education Officer, Dr Mrs Amasiani Rose, Ojukwu Ekuwutosi, Chukwudozie Chinelo and Nkiru Ezeokafor presented speeches at the occasion in support of the campaign against open defecation.

At Igwe Nnewi’s palace, Prince Chukwudi Orizu who received the advocacy team on behalf of Igwe Dr KON Orizu 111, while thanking CNC and her partners expressed the preparedness of Nnewi monarch to ensure total eradication of open defecation in the industrial town of Nnewi.

Nnewi North will surely be the next LGA to be declared ODF free.
