Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have assassinated an Anambra-based Reverend father, Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo. Okonkwo was reportedly assassinated on Thursday, 26th December, 2024, by the unidentified assailants at Ihiala, along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway between 7pm and 8pm. Rev. Fr. Raphael Ezeogu, Chancellor, Nnewi Catholic Diocese, in a statement, noted that until his death, Fr. Tobias, was a pharmacist, and native of Ekwulumili in Nnewi South Local Government Area. He was also the manager of the respective Schools of Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Laboratory at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, Anambra State.
Meanwhile, the management of the school, in a notice to the community and students of Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing, Ihiala, said: “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved manager, who was shot dead last night, December 26th, 2024.
“We are deeply pained by this senseless loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of our departed manager. The entire college community is in shock and mourning, and we urge everyone to remain calm and supportive of one another during this difficult time.
“We will provide updates and information regarding funeral arrangements and other necessary details as soon as possible. But for now, let us come together to pray for the soul of our departed manager and for comfort and strength for the family.”
