Gunmen attack 2 Anambra communities

Gunmen on Monday attacked two Anambra communities leaving four dead and others injured.

The gunmen allegedly struck between 8am and 10am when they stormed Abatete town in Idemili North LGA of the state, targeting security personnel in the town.

Three security men were said to be shot and killed in the early morning attack.

A President General (PG) whose identity has not been disclosed, was said to be critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The attack threw the entire community into panic mode as people were said to be running helter skelter in fear of the rampaging gunmen.

In another attack, gunmen were said to have attacked Ukpo Community at the Ukpo roundabout, in Dunukofia LGA of the state killing a member of Anambra Vigilante Group(AVG) member and one okada operator.

The attackers were said to have swooped on the community in the morning hours demanding recognition for Sovereign State of Biafra.

As at the time of filing this report, sources claimed that there series of attacks in Abagana and Nkpor communities.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam(CP) in a reaction to the attack stated that the command shall fish out the criminals that murdered four vigilante operatives and left two others seriously injured in the State.

The CP’s reaction was contained in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP).

He said, “The Armed men today 18/11/2024, unprovoked by 8:45 am operating in unregistered Lexus 330 SUV and Honda FJ Cruiser SUV at Ekeagu Abatete, murdered three members of the Vigilantes and injured another unsuspecting member of the public.

“Also at Ukpo junction, Dunkunofia LGA while escaping a hot chase by the Police Responding Team, shot and killed another member of the vigilante, injured another and set two vehicles ablaze.

“The bodies of the deceased has been recovered and the injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, SP Ikenga said.

Meanwhile, CP Obono-Itam has condoled with the family, friends and community of the deceased and stated that the police shall leave no stone unturned until those behind the barbaric act are arrested and justice served.
