One-time Governorship candidate under Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), His Excellency, Chief Okey Chikwendu decamped to African Democratic Congress ADC from his last political party.
Chief Okey Chikwendu is a well recognized name in the politics of Anambra State both as a major stakeholder and a grassroots mobilizer.
It is imperative to note that he is the Director Political Engagement in the Obedient Movement.
Obedient Movement is a non party affiliation associated with the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi.
Chief Chikwendu was a National Chairman of All Grand Alliance Party AGAP, which was one the parties deregistered by whim of former INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
Chief Okey Chikwendu turned the adversity into a positive force as he and 24 other leaders of political parties and presidential candidates that were deregistered into a political force to confront the impunity of the APC-led government, especially the ploy to disenfranchise Nigerians.
.The alliance of the twenty four deregistered parties is now known as Coalition For Good Governance. The Coalition For Good Governance led the fight against gimmick termed Electoral Act which was passed by the Senate and signed by the President under a few hours by sensitizing Nigerians of the implications, which sole purpose was to make their votes non effective, if not a nullity
During the reception of Chief Okey Chikwendu by the teeming members of the ADC faithfuls of Nnewi North LGA in his country home, Ndimgbu Otolo, Nnewi, Chief Ben Chuks Nwosu, as usual gave the occasion a vibrant coordination.
Chief Ben Chuks Nwosu, who is a key stakeholder of ADC in Anambra State, reminded the members that the party will take other parties by storm.
Chief Nwosu told the party faithfuls that “today is a great day in the life of ADC in Nnewi North, and a great sign that ADC is a movement with people like Chief Okey Chikwendu as a member.”
RT Hon Prince Chukwudi Orizu spoke highly of Chief Okey Chikwendu, who is a great mobilizer.
Prince Chukwudi Orizu informed all that the time is ripe for Mr Peter Obi to rescue Nigeria and Nigerians from the economic morass they face.
Chief Okey Chikwendu addressed the party members present to understand that he is joining ADC for a purpose which is centered around the aspiration of Peter Obi, who is today, tested in every measure and found to be an impeccable and ethical man that Nigerians need at this time.
“Now, we must engage in absolute retail politics by setting up chapters in my ward and the entire Nnewi North LGA.”
“I need my ward chairman and EXCO to give me a comprehensive list of names of stakeholders in the ward so that I will reach out to them.”
“I will advise for the LGA EXCO to engage likewise to mobilize every one, including the stakeholders. You know other parties have already established, so we must do more to take over Nnewi North.”
“Meanwhile, henceforth, members of my ward are free to meet here as often as necessary, and I will finance all costs “
Chief Chikwendu, advised the party to set up an official account to enable him deposit some funds for the party. This is to ensure transparency and accountability in line with the party’s principles.
Granted that Chief Okey Chikwendu did not publicize his intention to join the ADC, nevertheless a good number of stakeholders from all walks of life were at the event.
Among the stakeholders present at the event were: Ben Chuks Nwosu, RT Hon Prince Chukwudi Orizu, Ejike Ojukwu, Chief Aloy Uba, Roy C, Chief Emmanuel Okonkwo, CEO of Sydies, Chief Eugene Nwizugbe, Dr Somadina Ikedife, Prince Sunny Akalaka Orizu, CEO of Tipsy Barrel Nnewi, Hon Dr Ezeakukwu Emmanuel Nsoedo, and many LGA stakeholders, etc.
Meanwhile, Chief Chikwendu gave each party member present significant some of money for their logistics.
Following the ceremony at Chief Okey Chikwendu’s home, some of his friends took him to a private reception at Tipsy Barrel.
