IPOB Threatens One-Month Total Lockdown Over Kanu’s Trial •Says he must be produced in court on trial day

Unless the Federal Government accedes to the demand of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by producing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in court on October 7, 2021, for the continuation of his trial, the group has threatened to lock down the entire South-East region for a complete one month.

The group, which had three weeks ago, suspended its Monday sit-at-home order over the trial of Kanu for treason, with the plan to only observe the directive only on the days Kanu would be appearing in court, assured that if by the next appearance date, Kanu was not brought to court, it would commence a “total lockdown” of the South-East.
Kanu, who was abducted by the agents of the Federal Government in Kenya in June, is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony brought against him by the Federal Government over his a separate country for the Ala Ndigbo, from the Nigerian Federation.
The IPOB leader, who jumped bail in 2017 April and ran to the United Kingdom, had, until his abduction in Kenya, been drawing international attention to the plight of the South-East zone in the Nigerian Federation, calling the South Eastern Nigerian citizens to engage on civil disobedience.

Upon his abduction and extradition, Kanu was re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on June 29, 2021, and the trial was adjourned till October 21 owing to the failure of the Federal Government, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Department of State Security, DSS, on whose facilities, KANU is being held, to appear in court.
Issuing the one-month total lockdown in a statement on Wednesday, Emma Powerful, IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, said that the total lockdown would take effect on October 21.
Powerful alleged in the statement that “the Federal Government of Nigeria has again perfected plans with the Department of State Security DSS not to bring him to court on that day.
The statement reads in parts: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great prophet and liberator of our time, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the plot by Nigeria government and her DSS in Abuja not to produce our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to court on 21st October 2021, the date he is due to appear in court to start his case.
“Their wicked plan is to perpetually keep him behind bars without trial to see if they can demoralise him and Biafrans but they are late.
“If the federal government refuses to bring him to court in his next court appearance on October 21, 2021, the entire Biafra land will be on total lockdown for one month. The federal government will know that they cannot take us for granted anymore.
“Our peaceful disposition as a people should not be misconstrued as weakness. Nigeria cannot incarcerate our leader illegally and expect things to be normal again. If by October 21, Kanu is not brought to court, Nigeria will know that Kanu commands the unflinching loyalty of over 60 million Biafrans home and in Diaspora.
“By keeping our Leader out of circulation his health will be in jeopardy and we won’t allow this. The Fulani-controlled Nigeria Government must tell us why it will choose to disobey court orders and expect citizens to watch like conquered slaves. They are busy granting amnesty to terrorists and bandits killing their soldiers and citizens but keeping peaceful agitators in perpetual detention.
“Their plan is to suppress agitation and force everyone into submission but Biafrans won’t succumb to their intimidation. We are different people. Their plan is to silence agitations for freedom as championed by Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Ighoho so that the Fulani from across Africa will overrun Nigeria. They can’t conquer Biafra land as they have conquered Hausa and other indigenous tribes in Nigeria.”
