Journalists express worry over insecurity, poor condition of roads in Nnewi

From Ifeoma Ejiofor

National Link Chapel of Anambra State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed worry over the spate of insecurity and poor condition of roads in the industrial town of Nnewi.

The chapel expressed this concern in a communique at the end of their meeting which held at Nnewi on Wednesday.

The group condemned the total neglect of all the roads, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.

The journalists said that it is worrisome that all the federal, state and local government roads in Nnewi have been totally abandoned.

The chapel stressed that the poor state of roads in Nnewi have affected the business of which town is known for, due to traffic hold ups and time wastage on the roads.

They noted that Nnewi people have always been known for self-help where government fails to act. We recognize their consistent effort at residual actions.

“We appeal to the state government, federal government and all relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility of maintaining the road infrastructure to come to the aid of the industrial town of Nnewi, so that the city can still maintain her status as the Japan of Africa for which she known for.

“We also condemned in strong terms the general security relapse. Without confidence in that sector the business activities would stall further.

The journalists, therefore, challenged the security agencies to rise to the occasion in combating crime and criminal behavior in Nnewi. Metropolis.
