June 12 remains a powerful symbol of our collective struggle for justice, LP governorship candidate declares

From Ifeoma Ejiofor

The Labour Party standard bearer in the November 8 Anambra State governorship election, Chief Dr George Moghalu has described June 12 as a powerful symbol of Nigerians collective struggle for justice, accountability, and the right to determine our own destiny.

Chief Moghalu declaration was contained in his Democracy Day speech made available to journalists yesterday.

He said, “As we reflect on how far we have come as a nation, we must also consider how far we still have to go, especially here in our dear state, Anambra.

“For many, the promises of democracy remain unfulfilled. Our state, rich in talent and potential, continues to fall short of the aspirations of its citizens. Basic infrastructure, security, quality healthcare, functional education, and economic opportunities remain out of reach for too many. Governance has too often been reduced to rhetoric rather than results.

“This is not the democracy our heroes fought for. Democracy is not just about casting votes, it is about ensuring that those votes translate into meaningful change, with leadership that listens, responds, and delivers. It is about choosing competence over sentiment, integrity over convenience, and service over self-interest.

“Anambra needs more than promises. It needs visionary, accountable, and compassionate leadership that prioritizes the people. I offer myself in that service, not as a ruler but as a servant-leader, grounded in experience and driven by a sincere desire to build a better future for all.

“Let this Democracy Day awaken our collective will to act. Let us rise above the politics of personality and embrace the politics of purpose. As we prepare to exercise our democratic rights, the right to vote and be voted for, let us do so with clarity, courage, and commitment to a better Anambra.

“To Ndị Anambra, young and old, in our towns and villages, markets and schools, at home and in the diaspora, I send you my warmest regards. May peace, wisdom, and strength guide your every step. Together, let us birth a new chapter of governance rooted in truth, inclusion, and tangible progress.”
