Kano ADC allocates 60 percent leadership structure to Kwankwaso, Nasarawa elects new exco

Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has allocated 60 percent of its leadership structure to the former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his followers.

The power sharing deal was reached at a recent party’s stakeholders meeting where the leadership structure was thoroughly discussed and agreed upon.

Confirming the arrangement, state chairman, Musa Ungogo told Daily Sun that no particular allocation was made to the former deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna but observed that he had aligned himself to the Kwankwaso group and would be well-accommodated there.

He explained that the remaining 40 percent was reserved for the legacy party members and other political parties that recently joined the ADC  like “members from the Labour Party, the PDP, some defectors from the All Progressives Congress and the SDP as well as those that were previously non-active in any political party.

“One thing you can take home is that every group and every member is happy about the sharing formula. And secondly, all the positions that you will get from this congress today would be reached by consensus. There will be nothing to regret,” he said.

Musa described Kwankwaso’s defection to the ADC as a milestone for the party, while celebrating the rest of their leaders, both locally and nationally, as the pillars of the party’s recent surge in the state.

Nasarawa State chapter of the ADC has elected new state executives, with the former deputy governor, Chief John Michael Abdul, emerging as chairman.

Also elected at the party’s state congress held on Saturday was Isah Adamu Nadare, who clinched the position of state secretary.

Other members of the newly constituted executive include Prince Mohammed Yamusa Chindo as deputy chairman, Alhaji Aminu Nagogo as treasurer, Elmahmud Hussaini Sani as financial secretary, Hajiya Hafsat Ibrahim Tiyel as women leader, Prince Shekwoaga Musa Maikasuwa as youth leader, Paul Magaji Ajeh as legal adviser, Dr. Taimako Sunday Anyuabaga as publicity secretary and Hajiya Hassana Musa Maidoki as auditor.

At the zonal level, Idris Ojoko emerged as vice chairman for Nasarawa West, Alhaji Yahaya Onyapa as vice chairman for Nasarawa South while Mr. Joseph Masin was elected vice chairman for Nasarawa North.

The newly elected chairman, Chief Abdul, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in the new leadership.

“We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us to lead the party at this critical time. We will not take this responsibility lightly,” he said.

He pledged to work in synergy with party stakeholders to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots presence across the state, with a view to positioning the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.

“We are committed to building a united and formidable party structure that will resonate from the wards to the state level. Our focus will be on mobilisation, inclusivity and discipline,” Abdul stated.

The chairman also assured aspirants under the party’s platform of a level playing field, stressing that the leadership would ensure a transparent and credible primary process.

“All aspirants will be given equal opportunity. We will guarantee a fair, inclusive and transparent process that reflects the true will of party members,” he added.

Goodwill messages were delivered by prominent party leaders, including the Deputy National Chairman, Senator Patricia Akwashiki; National Vice Chairman (Diaspora), Musa Elayo; Chief of Staff to the National Chairman, Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe and the state Chief Whip, Mr. Julius Miyanki Ogah.

They congratulated the newly elected executives and charged them to intensify efforts toward strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests.

The congress attracted notable stakeholders and aspirants within the party, including  Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, Alhaji Jibril Sabo Keana (JSK), Ayuba Umar, Alhaji Nasiru Soja Abdullahi and Umar Shuaibu Kubi, among others.
