A thirty three year old suspected killer and a serial rapist, Chidiebere Mbene has been arrested in Unubi, in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State.
The suspect, sources claimed had been a nightmare to young girls and women in the area before his attack on the last victim who he allegedly killed the brother after which he was nabbed by the community security operatives.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) has confirmed the arrest of the suspected serial rapist.
The PPRO said that the suspect after raping his victim went ahead and murdered the fifteen year old brother of the victim, Nwokedi Michael Somtochukwu.
He said that the suspect was eventually arrested by the community security operatives and handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
Ikenga said that the development is an indication of the Command’s willingness to continue to leverage on community support to apprehend suspects and identify unrepentant criminals in the State.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu(CP) has commended the Nnewi community for their collaboration with the police in apprehending the alleged serial rapist.
CP Orutugu said that the development showcased the effectiveness of community policing and the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order.
The CP has also directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation.
