In a landmark moment for grassroots democracy,Nnewi Community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State would host Local Government Debate on the theme:Local Government Autonomy.
The Debate ,which would be aired on Sunday, 15th of September, 2024 on Afia TV by 5:00pm would provide candidates contesting with a platform to present their policies and vision for the future of the government at the grassroot.
The Debate would also offer voters a unique opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and make informed decisions about the leadership of their Local Government.
It must be noted that Political debates are common in presidential and gubernatorial elections,this marks the first-ever live broadcast of Local Government Debate in Nigeria. The event is expected to enhance democratic engagement and accountability at the grassroots level, encouraging transparency and empowering citizens to hold their Local leaders accountable.
Speaking on this,the flag bearer of YPP in Nnewi North Local Government Chairmanship election,Amb.Paul Muoneke said the Debate would allow voters to make informed decisions by comparing candidates’policies,ideas, and leadership styles.
He revealed that it would help the voters to hold candidates accountable for their promises,actions and decisions.
Amb.Muoneke said it would provide platform for candidates to clarify their positions and policies.
He added that the Debate would increase voters’ interest, participation, and engagement in electoral process.
“By organizing debate, voters could gain a deeper understanding of the candidates, their policies,and their leadership abilities, ultimately leading to more informed decision- making and better governance” he remarked
