Before his ascension to his position today, He was one of the major brains on the Management Board of the hospital, wherefore, he was the Chairman of several board committees, including the Board Committee on Clinical Services Improvement & Servicom, Board Committee on Public-Private Partnerships, Board Committee on Capital Budget as well as Board Committee on Liaison.
One might be forced to ask, What made *Prof Joseph* qualified for these positions?
*The genius* holds Postgraduate fellowships in Obstetrics and gynecology from the National Postgraduate Medical College, Nigeria (FMCOG), West Africa College of Surgeons (FWACS), and International College of Surgeons (FICS) and Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS).
He joined *NAUTH* as a resident doctor in 2005; 9 years later, he joined the Hospital management in 2014 as the deputy CMAC, a position he held for four years. He was subsequently appointed the CMAC in 2017 for an initial tenure of 2 years, which ended in 2019. Following his dedication to service, he was reappointed in 2019 for the final tenure of 2 years as the CMAC of the hospital.
His tenure as the CMAC of the hospital brought a lot of innovative changes and improvements in services under the leadership of the *CMD, Prof AO Igwegbe*. These include the formation of the NAUTH Research Society, the Quality Improvement Committee, the Clinicopathologic Conference series, the NAUTH Cancer Society, and the Laboratory Quality Management system, as well as the introduction of the Annual NAUTH Scientific Conference.
*Prof Joseph* is hungry for knowledge, intelligent, attentive, organized, a great leader, and a jovial person.
All these management positions make us forget that he is also a practicing doctor, he has done remarkably well as a doctor.
To improve himself, he attended several workshops, training, and conferences on strategic leadership and healthcare management. He also attended other activities organized by the administrative staff of the College of Nigeria (ASCON) and an associate of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria. (IMCON). He is a firm believer in transformational leadership and also believes that leaders should be altruistic, inspiring, motivational, transparent, and accountable.
He has a major vision to lead the institution to rank among the first five best tertiary healthcare institutions in Nigeria by 2030.
There is no doubt the innovative *CMD, Joseph Ugboaja* is committed to lifting the face and establishing a world-class hospital in *Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra state.*
The good people of the Southeast do not need to fly abroad for medical treatment. It is of interest to note that the leadership *Prof Joseph Ugboaja’s* tenure as CMD, the hospital is wearing an entire new look and the mood of the hitherto demoralized staff, upbeat. The upgrading of the Accident and Emergency unit and ICU to a world class structures is done and the Construction and equipping of a new CSSD unit is completed.
His passion for service keeps him burning the midnight oil, conjuring all blueprint paradigms for an inclusive and globally accepted standard of growth and balanced development for the health institution, and to the pride of all, *Prof Joseph Ugboaja* has dominated the health sector in Anambra state and South East like a colossus, enrooting his vestige in the development of facilities for a holistic overhaul. Suffice it to say that the *NAUTH CMD* has a spectacularly distinct from the obvious penchant of a good number of Nigerian public servants who are known to be opposed to progressive ideas.
*Prof. Joseph Ugboaja* is proof that young Nigerians are competent and innovative enough in leadership positions, and he has written his name in *Gold in the health sector*. All he needs now is more encouragement from the government and partnership with other well-meaning Nigerians to keep up the good works.
For actively leading the hospital on the path of greatness and for his contribution to the Nigerian healthcare sector so far, he is one of the *(OON)* recepients from the Nigerian Government.
