NAUTH CMD, Prof Ugboaja, seeks Strategic Partnership with University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital

The CMD of NAUTH, Professor Joseph Ugboaja is moving at a very fast pace to advance the development of the hospital. Professor Ugboaja is reaching across boundaries to explore and find practical solutions to numerous tasks facing NAUTH.

To this end, Professor Joseph Ugboaja (OON), Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, has embarked on a significant visit to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to fostering domestic partnerships for healthcare excellence.

The visit, which aligns with NAUTH’s strategic pillar of partnerships and collaborations, aims to facilitate knowledge exchange between two of Nigeria’s prominent teaching hospitals. UMTH, under the leadership of Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo and situated on an expansive 150 hectares of land, shares remarkable similarities with NAUTH in terms of size and operational complexity.

“This visit is strategic,” Prof. Ugboaja explained during his meeting with Prof. Ahidjo. “As we work towards our Vision 2030, it’s crucial to learn from and collaborate with institutions that share similar characteristics with NAUTH. UMTH’s experience in managing a large-scale healthcare facility offers valuable insights for our development.”

The tour of UMTH’s facilities provides an opportunity for NAUTH to:

• Study facility management strategies

• Exchange best practices in healthcare delivery

• Explore potential areas for collaboration

• Learn from UMTH’s experiences in managing a large medical complex

This domestic partnership initiative comes as NAUTH continues its transformation journey to become one of Nigeria’s top three hospitals by 2030. The collaboration between these two major teaching hospitals represents a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through institutional partnerships.

“Vision 2030 is not just about infrastructure development,” Prof. Ugboaja emphasized in discussions with Prof. Ahidjo. “It’s about creating a network of partnerships that will enhance our capacity to deliver excellent healthcare services. Our visit to UMTH is a testament to this commitment.”

The similarities between both institutions create a natural foundation for meaningful collaboration, potentially leading to:

• Joint medical research projects

• Staff exchange programs

• Shared learning experiences

• Collaborative medical education initiatives

This visit underscores NAUTH’s proactive approach to achieving its Vision 2030 goals through strategic domestic partnerships, demonstrating that the path to excellence in healthcare delivery requires collaboration and knowledge sharing among Nigeria’s leading medical institutions.

As NAUTH continues its journey toward becoming a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria, such strategic partnerships with peer institutions like UMTH will play a crucial role in shaping its development and contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The visit to UMTH marks another milestone in NAUTH’s strategic development plan, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to learning, growth, and excellence in healthcare delivery through meaningful partnerships.
