As part of activities slated for the Anniversary celebration of commissioning the permanent site, the ministerial visit, are all in line to project the vision of the Chief Medical Director, Prof Joseph Ugboaja.
Prof Ugboaja is laser-focused to rebrand the hospital to become a leading health institution in the country. In line with that vision, the hospital has commenced the 3rd phase of relocation of its department to the newly completed and furnished buildings at the permanent site.
These buildings have been earmarked for commissioning by the Honourable Minister for Health, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, who will be making a working visit to the hospital. The units and wards marked for relocation are the Accident & Emergency Unit, the Children’s Emergency Unit, the Maternity Unit, and the Children’s ward. Others are the Antenatal clinic, Medical ward, and Surgical ward.
The first unit to move to the permanent site among those selected was the Antenatal clinic, which commenced activities on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024. The Antenatal clinic houses about eight well-furnished and air-conditioned consulting rooms. It has the full complement of pharmacy, laboratory, immunization, and family planning units attached to ensure dedicated services. The esthetic setting of the building is indeed a beauty to behold.
Fielding questions from the press after the opening of the facility, the CMD explained the rationale behind building such a beautiful place for women’s care. He said that antenatal women are special, and therefore, deserve the best facilities to ensure their comfort.
Professor Ugboaja mentioned that the new clinic is a one-stop-shop that has all the facilities needed to attend to pregnant women. Prof Ugboaja explained the vision of creating a world-class Mother & Child Center of Excellence, which includes the ANC, maternity ward, special care baby unit, and the children’s ward, of which most of the buildings are completed and furnished.
The pregnant mothers that came for clinic were overjoyed by their experience at the new clinic.
The Nurses and doctors who were attending to the women marveled at the functionality of their new facilities. Some of the medical personnel marveled at the dexterity of the CMD and wondered how he is able to raise the funds to do these projects.
