Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital(NAUTH) Nnewi, Anambra State on Wednesday embarked on medical outreach at Ifitedunu, Dunukofia local government area of the state.
The outreach was in partnership with the Department of Family Medicine of the institution.
The medical outreach which took place at Ifitedunu General hospital saw many people trooping out to take advantage of the unique opportunity made available by NAUTH.
Dr Iroamusi Chinyere and Dr Okorie Onyinye, consultants at Family Medicine Department gave health talks on visiting hospital immediately an ailment is detected and effects of alcoholism, smoking and intake of synthetic foods o n healthy living.
The royal father of Ifitedunu, HRH, Igwe Dr. Chukwuemeka Iluno expressed happiness over the medical outreach which according to him would greatly assist the indigent patients in the community.
He said as a matter of fact that the community would provide all that is needed for a smooth takeoff of the general hospital as a satellite of Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital.
Eze Ifitedunu revealed that efforts are ongoing to ensure that everyone in the community is captured in the National Health Insurance scheme which according to him is just twelve thousand Naira per year for an individual.
Igwe Iluno commended the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH, Prof Joseph Ugboaja for blazing the trails in the leadership of the health institution.
In his comment at the occasion, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH represented by Prof Ogochukwu Ezejiofor, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the health institution, said that the outreach to Ifitedunu and other communities in the state are part of the social responsibilities of the hospital.
He confirmed the fact that NAUTH has acquired the Ifitedunu General hospital and that the hospital would be manned by quality staffs and adequately equipped to take care of her new responsibility to the people.
The highlights of Ifitedunu medical outreach include: Health Promotion, free Medical Consultation, free screening for common ailments, free eyecare services and
free dental care services.
A beneficiary, Mrs Nneka Okeke thanked the Ifitedunu monarch and the management of NAUTH for the medical outreach which he said is timely for many patients who cannot afford to go for treatment in conventional hospitals because of the nation’s economy.
