It was celebration galore at the four quarters of Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State as Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America (USA) gave palliatives to needy in the industrial town.
The palliatives comprising Tomato Apolos best selected parboiled rice and cash was distributed simultaneously at Otolo-Nnewi, Uruagu-Nnewi, Umudim-Nnewi and Nnewichi-Nnewi.
At the secured residence of Ogbuefi Aghariaku Okeke in Nnewichi-Nnewi, beneficiaries numbering seventy five could not contain their joy and excitement over the palliatives which was distributed to them by Mrs Grace Okeke in company of Mrs Egbuonu Chioma Theresa.
Mrs Okeke recalled with relish that the group had during the Christmas celebrations spent millions of Naira on Awaiting Bill Settlement (ABS) patients in selected hospitals in the industrial town of Nnewi.
The intervention according to Mrs Okeke enabled the patients who could not go home after being discharged from the hospital because of their inability to offset their hospital bills, get reunited with their families and loved ones.
Mrs Okeke noted that the palliative being distributed consist of five thousand Naira cash and 10kg of quality rice for 300 beneficiaries in four quarters of Nnewi.
She however pointed out that the palliatives made available by Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, USA is.strictly to assist the poor and not meant for political or any other purposes.
They beneficiaries ably led by Madam Ifeyinwa Nzewi burst into singing and dancing in appreciation of the officials and members of the group who still remembers them in the far away country of sojourn.
At St Cletus Catholic Church, Otolo-Nnewi, Mrs Anigbogu Tawa coordinated the distribution of palliatives for the carefully selected less privileged persons in the society.
At St Berth, Umuezeagu, Uruagu-Nnewi, Mrs Chioma Agabasi who coordinated the distribution of the palliatives ensured orderliness and strict compliance to the directives from the leadership of the USA based group.
At Okongwu Memorial Grammar School, the palliatives were distributed to the needy persons from Umudim-Nnewi, at Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Mrs Grace Okeke and Mrs Chioma Egbuonu ably assisted by Ven. George C. Uchendu ensured an hitch free distribution of the rice and cash palliatives.
Speaking with journalists after the distribution, Ven Uchendu applauded the entire members of Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, USA for their constant positive interventions at home.
He said as a matter of fact that what they are doing for people at home is wonderful especially now that many families are facing severe economic hardship.
Ven Uchendu urged other groups and affluent individuals home and abroad to borrow a leaf from Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia USA who though are far away from home but are always giving helping hands to the less privileged persons at home.
The priest who assured the group of his prayers also charged the beneficiaries to always remember them in their prayers too.
