The Nnewi youth election scheduled for November 13, 2022, failed to hold as planned due to multiple issues, amongst which was a court order to stop the election.
The youth organization has been experiencing real difficulty setting up its executive officers following the expiration of John Paul Moneke’s tenure.
Vision Newspapers’ investigation showed that it is the turn of the Nnewichi quarter to produce the President General of Nnewi youth. But from the outset, Nnewichi could not agree on which of the village among the villages that made up the Nnewichi quarter to produce the president.
That interregnum created by the internal crisis with its zoning arrangement created an opportunity for a Caretaker Committee led by Mr. Nkem Okeke to spring up.
When finally the election came up, it was alleged that political interest became paramount as a candidate for a federal office from the Umudim quarter was hell-bent on influencing who becomes the next president.
Vision Newspapers was also informed that the candidate being propped by the politician turned out to be the least among the contestants comprising Hon Peter Obinwa, Ezenwa Onowu, Chibunna, and Ejima Ucheagwu.
The core issue to be determined was the attempt to circumvent the constitutional provisions regarding eligibility to stand for the election.
It was under this intimidating scenario that one of the Nnewi youth’s stakeholders asked for the court to intervene through an injunctive order to stop the election.
