Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the weekend joined his colleagues from the North Central Zone and other distinguished Nigerians to celebrate Sen George Akume’s appointment as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Mutfwang described the appointment as well-deserved, highlighting Sen. Akume’s extensive experience and noteworthy contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape.
Governor Mutfwang conveyed his feelings during a reception organised by the North Central Governors Forum in honour of Sen. Akume.
A statement issued in Jos by the director of press and public affairs, Gyang Bere, said the event held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, was attended by diverse political figures.
Governor Mutfwang described Sen Akume as an exemplary representative of the North Central Zone, citing his impressive track record as a two-term governor of Benue State, a two-term senator and recently, a minister.
“I am honoured to be present to celebrate a seasoned politician, a proficient administrator and an individual who has risen to the highest echelon of government. This appointment is fitting and well-deserved and I am confident that the trust placed on you by the president will remain unwavering,” the governor said.
Governor Mutfwang said despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there was a need for all to unite and support Akume to enable him succeed in his new office. He emphasiSed that the occasion transcends partisan lines and aims to give due recognition where it is merited.
Vice President Kashim Shettima echoed a similar sentiment, saying the event was a gathering of individuals united by their dedication to Nigeria’s progress.
He advocated collaborative efforts to foster a more favourable business environment in the country.
Shettima hailed Akume as a peace advocate who has contributed significantly to Nigeria’s unity. He called for united support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to enhance the nation’s prosperity.
Sen. Akume expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the honour, highlighted the president’s promising start and appealed for collective support.
Akume acknowledged Tinubu’s political experience and underscored the importance of Nigerians rallying behind him for national growth.
