There was not much left to be said when the campaign train of Obi-Datti breezed into All Saints Cathedral Church field, Onitsha, to the enthusiastic crowd eagerly awaiting their arrival. And true to the characters of Obi and Datti, they did not disappoint their supporters.
The Flag bearer of the Labour party, Mr. Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, were given the hero’s welcome. It is true that Obi first exhibited his pedigree as a prudent elected governor who handled the affairs of the state with distinction contrary to tendencies for self-enrichment, widely the routine than the exception.
The national leadership of the party and members of the Presidential Council, the party candidates for the Houses of Assembly, Federal House of Representatives, and the Senate were in their numbers.
Obi dazzled the crowd with his manifesto as he promised to fix Nigeria for the good of everyone and to the admiration of all.
Meanwhile, Datti wooed the crowd and reminded them that it is only somebody like Peter who can make Nigeria a harmonious place all Nigerians can enjoy.
“I believe in justice and that is why I’m with Peter Obi. Between South-East and North-West, there is a strong history of friendliness – in fact, between the whole South and the whole North. To live as one, a leader like Peter Obi must be elected in Nigeria,” Datti opined.
The party officials and others confirmed that the crowd was intimidating.
