The Okposieke Family Onitsha has accused the Nigeria Police of Conniving with the President general of Onitsha Sport club chief Dan Okafor and Chief G.U.O. Okeke a popular Onitsha based transport mogul who is a trustee of the Club to intimidate them to forcefully acquire their ancestral land but vowed that they will resist it to ensure that justice is done to them.
Making this allegation against the Police, Chief Dan Okafor, and Sir G.U.O. Okeke while addressing newsmen during a Press conference Organized by the Family to expressed their displeasure on the Ongoing land tussle between the family and authorities of Onitsha Sports club last week , Bar Dr Harold Ekwerekwu the spokesman of the Family Flanked by the Family members, namely Chief Valentine Ekwerekwu (Ifediora) Ex President Recreation club Onitsha, Edward Ojekwe Ekwerekwu, Prince Charles Ekwerekwu, Sir William Ekwerekwu among others while narrating how the said property was Leased to authorities of Onitsha Sports club by their Forefathers and how the said Lease agreement has expired as well as how the Federal government in their wisdom handed back the property to their Family.
He stated that after this development that the Family had in several occasions approached the authorities of Onitsha Sports club for a discussion but that on each occasion the family was rebuffed by the authorities of the sports club prompting them to went to court but later on abandoned the matter when the federal government intervene and released the property to the family.
While noting that instead of the authorities of Onitsha sports club pursuing the matter legally, He alleged that, the authorities of Onitsha Sports Club in alliance with Chief GUO Okeke went to Abuja Connived with the Police to use the men of Mopol 31 Asaba in delta state to Forcefully enter the Property, destroying Fences as well as erecting new ones.
Specifically Pointing accusing Fingers on two Police officers namely Corporal Chimaobi and Musa who he described as bad Corps who are giving the entire Nigeria Police a bad Image, He called the Inspector general of Police to Intervene and save the Family From been denied of their land.
Reacting to this when Contacted, Chief GUO Okeke expressed Surprise that his name is been mentioned in a matter he is not Involved noting that when the matter was going on that he was in Overseas for his usual Vacation. Said he, “I don’t know anything about what they are saying as I am not around when this matter was going on. They should not involve me, let them leave me alone”
While saying that he is wondering why the Family should Single him out to alleged that he want to grab their Land, he noted that he has had enough land and will have no Cause to acquire more Lands Stressing that people should not Find an excuse to Smear his good Image he has acquired For years as an astute businessman.
On his part, Chief Dan Okafor, the president general of Onitsha sports club said that contrary to these allegations against him and the club that the Okposieke family are the one looking for trouble noting that they have in several occasion attacked the club with thugs, destroying properties worth millions of naira as well as beaten up the club workers. He stated that on several occasions that the family has attacked them and even refused to appear in court in several suits involving the club and the family.
Noting that the club is made up of respectful and honorable individuals in the society, He stated that all the allegations leveled against them by the family are all tissue of lies adding that the club is law abiding club.
