Onitsha Market Importers Association elects new EXCO

Importers association at Old Motor Car Parts market, Ugwuagba Obosi , Idemili North Local Government area, Anambra state, under the aegis of Used Auto Importers Association, has elected a nine man executive to pilot its affairs.

The election which was conducted at Friends Social Club hall, Ibolo Obosi, was described as hitch free with Okonkwo Obiefuna Chinedu, who emerged as chairman while Chibuike Aloysius Amobi, was elected as Vice Chairman.

Others were, Linus Uzor – Secretary, Elochukwu Okwurgo – assistant secretary, Ferdinand Igwe – Financial Secretar, Unogu Innocent Onyedika – treasurer, Ikenna Orji Onyemeai – Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ugochukwu Ekeanyanwu – Chief Provost and Casmir Chukwu – Provost II.

During the election, the President Gneral, PG, Anambra State markets Amalgamated Traders Association, ASMATA, Chief Humphery Anuna, advised the traders to be of good behaviour and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of traders.

His words, “Markets have their procedures for election but today I promise you all that the way you agreed for your election is approved to you for peace to reign.

Speaking, Chief Ifurunwa Samuel, Chairman, old motor parts association, Ugwuagba, Obosi stated, “This association is like a club in our market. Today they decided to fix their leaders. I came to witness the election.

“It was a successful election, it’s well organised and peaceful. I thank the chairman of the BOT and board of trustees and other people that came out to witness the election. I thank everyone.

“My advice to them is today they were elected they should try and work so that everyone will see the reason why they were handed over the leadership of the association and I also praise them because they worked very hard,” he stated.

Nze Clifford Muodinka, chairman Board of Trustees, New Auto Importers Association, Ugwuagba Obosi, said that, “Today’s election was successful and that is how we normally do it. It’s credible and transparent.

“My message to the incoming chairman is that the good legacy left in this market is what he will continue with.

“Governor Soludo is doing very well. Solution is solution. He is doing perfectly well, the traders of Ugwuagba Obosi are strongly behind him because of all these good works he is doing in our market. He should not do any campaign because he is already a winner. We will campaign and vote for him,” he assured.

Mr. Okonkwo Obiefina Chinedu, the newly elected chairman, in his response said that, “I am very happy the way the election went because we have been preparing for the election long time ago but through the chairman, Board of Trustrees and Ugwuagba Obosi, the election went well.

“My main priority is importers’ welfare, anywhere there is no peace we will make sure there is peace. We will unite the market to be in unity. We will make sure that there is an adequate security.

“We are seeing and thanking our governor for all he is doing in our market, he is doing well and has done a lot within three years in office. The security measure he put in place is the highest thing he did to Anambrarians because we can now go to bed and sleep with our two eyes closed.

“The ASMATA PG, we thank him also the way he handled us as his children, whenever we went to him for help, he always helped by giving us listening ear.

“To opposition who stepped down for me with a written letter, I promise them that everyone will be carried along, let them come and join hands to move the market forward,” he pleaded.

Contributing, Mr Linus Uzor, the secretary of Ugwuagba Obosi, stated that the election was very successful disclosing that he knew he would win the election because of his achievements as former secretary in the last regime.

” I believe I did well that is why members of our association said I should contest for the office of secretary again. I will give the chairman full support that will move us ahead, I will carry my duty the same I did it before. I thank all that voted for us and promised them that we will not disappoint them,” he vowed.

“Mr Ikenna Orji Onyemesi, the elected PRO of the association, said, ” We promise our chairman that we will back him and make sure we put a good curriculum to push this association forward without finding any fault from our leadership.

“Chief Humphery Anuna, ASMATA PG, is a good leader, he is leading by example, today through his advice to us, I learned a lot of things from him”, he disclosed.

Chief Charles Ofiachi, former chairman of Importers Association, Auto Parts market Ugwuagba Obosi, stated, ” Today is the main day for this election and God supported today, those that were selected and elected, we selected them because we have trust in them to continue from where we stopped and we promise to give them every necessary support they need in this their leadership,” he pledged.
