Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, is set to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) today.
Ahead of the formal defection, he had tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a December 29 letter addressed to the chairman of his Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area.
The letter reads” “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the Governor stated.
“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my unwavering commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform to participate in the political process.”
Mutfwang thanked the PDP for providing him the platform to pursue his political aspirations and thanked party members and supporters for their steadfast loyalty and support over the years.
According to the governor, his decision to join the APC is a strategic and well-considered move taken in the overriding interest of the people of Plateau State. He noted that the step would better align the state’s development objectives with the policies and programmes of the Federal Government, thereby accelerating growth and delivering greater dividends of democracy to the people.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to providing purposeful leadership, promoting inclusive governance, and championing unity across Plateau State, stressing that breaking barriers of division remains central to achieving collective growth and sustainable development.
The governor is expected to formalise his registration and the presentation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership card to him. The ceremony is expected to take place at the Victoria Gowon Hall, Government House, Rayfield.
A statement by the Director of Press Affairs, Gyang Bere, said the governor will thereafter proceed to the Plateau State Secretariat of the APC at Kalwa House, Yakubu Gowon Way, Jos, where he will formally interface with party leaders and members.
The statement enjoined all party faithful, political associates, supporters, admirers, and well-wishers are cordially invited to attend and witness this occasion.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders has asked President Bola Tinubu to shelve the idea of seeking re-election in 2027, noting that he would be rejected at the polls. The stakeholders under the aegis of Conference of Professionals in in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP), said a critical assessment of the country, under Tinubu, in the past two years, reveals, the President has allegedly performed woefully.
The CP-PDP, in a statement by its Protem National Coordinator, Obinna Nwachukwu, dismissed the President’s New Year address as a litany of unsupported performance claims and projections that are inconsistent with reality.
“CP-PDP’s advice to President Tinubu to jettison any re-election ambition is predicated on the widespread disapproval and loss of confidence by Nigerians in his administration which has been rated as the worst in the history of the nation due to its unprecedented failures.
“This is in addition to several national and international independent governance ratings which ranked the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration as the most inept, most insensitive, and the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria.
“The Conference notes as appalling that the APC administration has not been able to chart any clear direction for security, economy, and other critical sectors such as education, health, housing, power, transport, and infrastructure,” the statement noted.
It added that the government has allegedly to push “obnoxious policies leading to the suffocation of the productive and service sectors, dearth of investment incentives, the exit of multinationals, and the closure of SMEs with attendant massive job losses; collapsed purchasing power of citizens, biting hardship and a complete sense of hopelessness across the country.
“Today, majority of Nigerians, even across party lines, are eagerly waiting for 2027 to vote out the APC and enthrone a truly people-oriented government, which only the PDP can guarantee.”
