A police inspector identified as Inspector Okolie Amechi has been shot dead by his ten year old son in Anambra.

The police inspector was said to be on duty at an undisclosed bank in Awka, the state capital when his sons allegedly paid him a visit at work.
The 10-year-old son, (Names withheld) was said to be playing with the gun and had no idea it was loaded when he pulled the trigger and hit his father.

The younger brother was also said to be struck by the bullet who sustained gunshot injuries to his back and right hand.
An eye witness who pleaded for anonymity claimed that the police inspector and his injured son were rushed to Chukwuemeka Ojukwu Odumegwu Teaching Hospital in Awka.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of Police Inspector.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) in his reaction said that the
incident, occurred on the evening of June 15, 2025, was allegedly due to an accidental discharge by his 10-year-old son.
“The son unaware of the state of the AK 47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector on the back and his second child on the hand. Regrettably.
“Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment. Meanwhile, the AK47 rifle has been recovered while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue,” he said.
