Re: Unaji Scholastica Ekpereka- case of assault on a health worker and attempt at cheap blackmail.
The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi has noted the current trend of blackmail by an unidentified lady in a futile effort to cajole the hospital into abandoning the ongoing prosecution of a case of serious assault on one of the staff members of the hospital.
To put the records straight, there is no iota of truth in what she is allerging.
The deceased was admitted to the Accident and Emergency section of our facility in a critical condition on the 28th of February 2024,having been ill for over one year,and very Ill in the preceding five months.
She was managed in a very standard and timely manner consistent with her condition, which was multsystem failure arising from poorly treated connective tissue disease.
There was no gap in her treatment, and there was no time the oxygen supply to the patient finished.The team of Health workers that attended to her included Gastroenterologists,Cardiologists,Rheumatologists and Plastic Surgeons.
Repulsively, following the death of the patient, the brother descended on the attending nurse, beating her to stupor in the process.
The assaulted staff is severely injured and currently receiving treatment.
The assailant was promptly arrested, detained by the security agencies , and is currently been prosecuted.
The father has been making repeated pleas with hospital management(duly acknowledged that proper care was given to her daughter) for the release of his son from police custody.
Let it be known that no amount of social media blackmail, bullying or cajoling with deter the hospital from pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion, if only to serve as a deterrent to others that may toe the same line of action.
Assault to health workers has been on the increase, and the management of this hospital will leave no stone unturned in prosecuting anyone who assaults any member of its staff, to its logical conclusion irrespective of any form of blackmail or cyber bullying.
