Rivers crisis: Ohanaeze youths rally support for Fubara

The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC), Rivers State chapter, has condemned the attempt to impeach the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, by the House of Assembly.

President of the youth wing of Ohanaeze, in Rivers State, Jocelyn Johiah, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday, called on members of the public irrespective of their tribes, political affiliation, to stand against anything that would truncate the Fubara-led administration.

Johiah said: “We want to use this medium to call on all people of good conscience, irrespective of their political leaning, tribe or ethnic extraction, to stand up against this unjust attempt to carry out a civilian coup d’état against the people of Rivers State, using the backdoor of a counterpart legislative arm of government.

“Governor Sim Fubara represents the equity the riverine communities in Rivers State deserve. These riverine communities have for many years been patient and supportive of the other brother tribe that had dominated the corridors of power in the last 24 years.”

The youth council emphasized that it would continue to support the scheme of things, adding that it has decided to rally round him in furtherance of equity in the state.

According to Johiah, OYC Rivers State chapter observed that the parent body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, regards the governor and his people as sharing same affinity with Ohanaeze people.

The group urged Rivers residents to support the governor and shun bickering, so that he (Fubara) could concentrate on governance for the development of the state.

“Sim Fubara has before him a great challenge and a great opportunity to turn around the fortunes of the state. This can only be with the help of all, and certainly not with the distraction from obviously self-serving few persons whose wish is to overthrow the calmness of a once peaceful state.

“We are extremely persuaded that if Sim is given the environment of peace, his administration will be the best in the history of Rivers State.
Allow Sim Fubara to breathe.”
