Coming into the National Beach Soccer Tournament ongoing in Anambra State, the Anambra Warriors have become a team to beat.
It is ironic that the team based in Nnewi has never been in any league competition except in Kebbi where the first round of the 2024 league took place before the competition moved to Anambra state.
The Anambra Warriors have yet to lose any game. Yesterday morning, being Friday, May 17, 2024, they did the impossible by defeating the African champion, Kebbi United FC. It was a thriller performance by both teams.
After going through the regular time, both teams stood their ground. They went into overtime, and still, none of the teams could emerge a winner until the penalty shootout when Anambra Warriors emerged as the winner.
Later in the evening of Friday, the Anambra Warriors mowed down the Kaduna team 8 goals to 3.
Professor Madubuko who formed the team just months ago was astonished at the level of skills and coordination between the players. He expressed appreciation to the coaches, the staff, and fans who have become faithful already to a game they barely understood.
The Hausa community in Nnewi trooped out in their numbers to support their teams participating in the competition.
The President of the Beach Soccer in Nigeria and Africa, Mahmoud Hadeja was confident that the game would spread rapidly in Anambra state going by the interest the competition has generated.
