Troops from Exercise Golden Dawn III, alongside the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, and Vigilante operatives, have carried out a raid on the camps of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in the Orsumoghu area of Anambra State.
A statement released on Tuesday by the Nigerian Army said one militant was neutralized during the operation, while others managed to escape with gunshot injuries. The troops successfully cleared and destroyed the IPOB/ESN camps, recovering a pump-action rifle in the process.
During a patrol along the Orsumoghu-Ukpor road in Ihiala Local Government Area, troops encountered armed individuals described as “irredentist.” The superior firepower of the security forces compelled the criminals to abandon their location. Recovered items from this encounter included 27 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 3 locally made hand grenades, 2 handheld radios, one pair of NPF uniforms, a fragmental jacket, and various charms.
Exercise Golden Dawn III, initiated in the South East region to reinforce security during and after the yuletide period, continues to yield positive results.
