Three siblings have engaged in a gun duel in Ukulu community in Anambra State.
Sources claimed that the siblings have been engrossed in a serious battle before situation got over head on Saturday.
A source who pleaded for anonymity claimed that the elders in the community have attempted to intervene and resolve the matter amicably without success.
Meanwhile, the police operatives had to rush to the scene of the shooting to restore normalcy.
In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for Anambra State command, Tochukwu Ikenga(SP) confirmed the incident.
He said, “In the evening of 12th April 2025, Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu-Ukwu responded swiftly at the scene of a shooting incident in Ukwulu and prevented the situation from escalating further.
“The Operatives rescued a victim with a gunshot injury, recovered one AK47 rifle, one pistol, and six (6) rounds of live ammunition. Two suspects were also arrested at the scene.”
The PPRO said that the suspects are already undergoing, interrogations while the victim was taken to the hospital and is responding to medical treatment.
He said that preliminary investigations revealed that both the victim and the armed suspect who sought the assistance of another, are brothers and have been having a serious misunderstanding.
Ikenga said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
In another development, the command has arrested a forty nine year old man, for murdering his sixty eight year old mother at Amudo Village, Ekwulobia in Orumba North LGA of the state.
The suspect according to the PPRO also attempted to take his own life before he was nabbed by operatives.
The PPRO said that preliminary information has revealed that the squabble between the man and his mother started when the suspect accused the deceased of being dishonest about the money realized from a cassava business.
