Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo has on Friday, 29th November, 2024 endorsed the Anambra Vigilant Service (AVG) Nnewi popularly known as the Nnewi Concerned Citizens Security Outfit founded by the late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah.
It must be noted that street lights with close circuit television, CCTV cameras that are mounted in Nnewi, a control room with over thirty televisions, over seven hundred walkie-talkies were provided to all the vigilantes, machetes, torchlights, good remuneration packages, insurance to the personnel by the late Sen Ubah.
The endorsement which took place in their command office at Igwe Orizu Road, Nnewi had in attendance Governor Charles Soludo, being represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi, the AVG General Commander, Mr Okpomkpi, NCC Stakeholder and supervisor of NCC security outfit, Chief Eugene Nwizuigbe (Anyanwu Igbo), Hon. Melie Onyejegbu, Samuel Atuchukwu, and 76 AVG security team, among others.
Speaking, Emeakayi expressed his disapproval on the rate of kidnapping going on in Nnewi. He urged the 76-security team to stop playing Nnewi politics and ensure the safety of the community.
He tasked them to collaborate with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property of the residents.
Emeakayi reminded the security outfit that late Senator Ubah, the founder, would be disappointed in them if they failed to safeguard the community despite the equipment he provided them with.
He instructed the team to start patrol immediately to bring kidnappers, cultists, drug traffickers and others to book.
Emeakayi restated Governor Soludo’s unwavering commitment to ensure adequate security of lives and property in Anambra State.
“Go into the streets of Nnewi, nobody will stop you. If anyone tries to stop you call me. We don’t want kidnapping anymore in Nnewi. We are going to assign some police officers to join you,” he added.
He further urged the NCC security outfit to operate peacefully adding that they should avoid conflict.
Chief Eugene Nwizugbe (Anyanwu Igbo) who spoke during the occasion commended Governor Soludo for his efforts to ensure adequate security in Anambra State. He said he believed that Nnewi would improve in terms of security, stating that NCC security outfit would start action immediately.
He reminded the Governor of his promises to assign police officers that would patrol with the team.
Other supervisors who spoke, Hon Emerie Onyejekwu and Hon Samuel Atuchukwu assured the Governor of their readiness to make Nnewi community a secured environment for investment and other development.
