The scheduled meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government over the looming strike action has been postponed.
The postponement of the meeting, planned for today, Monday, August 26, was confirmed by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke.
The meeting is to take place on Wednesday, August 28 and no reason was given for the postponement.
Public varsity lecturers under the umbrella of ASUU threatened industrial action last week over what they called the unwillingness of the federal government to honour the 2009 renegotiated agreement.
The strike notice was issued after the national executive council meeting of the union, which was held at the University of Ibadan a weekend before.
Among other demands, ASUU seeks funding and the need to stop the proliferation of universities across the nation.
The meeting between the federal government and the union was to prevent the strike from taking place.
