The Sultanate Council has debunked a trending social media report alleging that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, left the country following a purported United States airstrike in Sokoto.
Debunking the social media reports,the Sultanate maintained that,”Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has attended a cultural summit 2026, tagged ECHOS OF RESILIENCE, HARNESSING CULTURE FOR PEACE AND REGIONAL STABILITY held at Ramat square, Maiduguri, Borno State.
A statement issued by Aminu Haliru Gidadawa, the Public Relations Officer,
Sultanate Council, Sokoto on Friday and made available to newsmen quoted the Sultan congratulating the Borno State Governor Professor Baba Gana Umara Zulum for his very glaring achievements in bringing peace and development to the State, despite numerous challenges.
Sa’ad Abubakar also thanked him for his usual hospitality and wished him the best in all his endeavors.
He said hosting of the Durbah and cultural events with thousands of people from all parts of the State indicates that peace and unity have come to stay in the State.
Sultan Sa’ad added that,” his attendance was out of brotherhood and solidarity that existed for centuries between the Sokoto caliphate and Kanem Borno Empire, despite cultural diversity that the two States harness as their source of strength and unity.
“The monarch also appreciated the support of the Shehu of Borno with whom they together steer the affairs of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Jama’atu Nasril Islam and Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria and wished him many more years of fruitful service to Borno Emirate and humanity.
To further expressed his appreciation, he acknowledged the attendance of representatives of other Countries including Chad, Niger, Cameroun, Benin, Ghana and Saudi Arabia and wished them safe return back home.
In their separate remarks, the Borno State Governor Professor Baba Gana Umara Zulum and Shehu of Borno Dr Abubakar Umar Garbai Elkanem appreciated the Sultan for attending the event, emphasizing that it was meant to promote culture as source of unity and strength for peace and progress.
The event was attended by the Governor of Yobe State Mai Mala Buni, Senators, House of Representative Members and many dignitaries from within and outside the Borno.
