The sleepy town of Alor community in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State has been thrown into palpable tension as a senior police officer has allegedly shot his kinsman to death.
The suspect, Obinna Anikwenze (DSP) a serving police officer who is said to be notorious for display of rascality, and intimidation of kinsmen during local community meeting was said to have fatally shot Mr Chinedu Okoye on 2nd August, 2025.
Problem was said to have started when Umuru-Ide community in Alor attempted to change the leadership of the group due to what they called financial mismanagement.
“But DSP Obinna Anikwenze and his cohorts would not have such positive development in their community as he always attend the community meeting with a service pistol with a threat to gun down anybody who dared to oppose him.
“On August 6th, Anikwenze attended a pathfinding meeting with a pistol and hijacked proceedings, he ensured that the minutes of previous meeting was not read, he and his cohorts arrogated such much powers to themselves and eventually constituted themselves into the community s Elders’ Council.
The Alor People’s Convention, the umbrella body for all the communities in the town that produced Dr Chris Ngige, the former Anambra State Governor has petitioned the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Ukpo, and CP in charge of Anambra.
Alor People’s Convention under the leadership of Chief Emma Ojukwu (Agbigwe) in a letter to IGP, AIG, CP wants the police high command to step into the brewing crises occasioned by the murder of an innocent person by a police officer in the community without delay to avoid unforseen circumstances.
He recalled that Umuru-Ide community had on 31st December, 2024 in an official letter complained about the rascality and recklessness of DSP Obinna Anikwenze especially by the way he was subjecting his kinsmen into silence by criminal use of police service pistol.
Agbigwe who presented copies of his missives to the relevant authorities said that the need for the powers that be to step into the matter has become imperative to avoid dangerous implosion in Alor community.
“Late Mr. Chinedu Okoye, a.k.a. Captain was shot by a trigger-happy rogue officer of the Nigeria Police, SP. Obinna Anikwenze on Saturday, 2nd August, 2025. He died early Thursday morning, 14th August, 2025, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi from the injuries sustained from the gunshot.
“SP Obinna Anikwenze is in the habbit of terrorizing his Umuru-Ide village kinsmen with his service pistol.
“The authorities must, as a matter of urgency, remove the service pistol from the mentally deranged cop, Obinna Anambra, before he kills another innocent soul. It is in the best interest of peace for Police big brass to assess this officer’s sanity and State of mind so as to do the needful,” Agbigwe insisted.
