THE APC RESPONSE TO SENATOR TAMBUWAL’S PATRIOTIC WARNING ON DEFECTIONS IS AN ATTEMPT TO SILENCE OPPOSITION VOICES AND MASK NIGERIA’S DETERIORATING SITUATION

FEBRUARY 17, 2025

PRESS STATEMENT

The recent statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC), signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, attacking His Excellency, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is a blatant attempt to silence opposition voices and divert public attention from the deepening crises facing Nigeria. Rather than addressing the pressing issues of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failure, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a tactic that underscores its desperation and failure of leadership.

Senator Tambuwal’s caution about the lure of “stomach infrastructure” behind recent defections to the APC is not just a political statement but a patriotic call for Nigerians to remain vigilant in defending democracy. As an experienced statesman, he has witnessed the APC’s increasing use of coercion, enticement, and intimidation to weaken the opposition and pave the way for one-party authoritarian rule. His warning serves as a wake-up call for all Nigerians to reject opportunistic politics and prioritise leadership defined by integrity, principle, and vision.

The APC’s attempt to frame recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians who continue to endure unprecedented hardship. The reality under this administration is grim. Inflation has soared, pushing the cost of living beyond the reach of millions, while insecurity has worsened, turning homes, farms, and highways into danger zones. Unemployment rates continue to rise, with countless businesses shutting down, leaving many in despair and deepening the scourge of poverty.

Given these dire conditions, can those defecting to the APC genuinely tell Nigerians that life has improved under this administration? The answer is a resounding no. These defections are not a testament to APC’s good governance but rather a reflection of the desperation for survival amid economic distress.

While the APC hides behind false narratives of economic recovery, ordinary Nigerians are struggling under the weight of hardship. Foreign reserves and trade surpluses mean little when citizens can not afford food, shelter, and healthcare. This administration has replaced governance with propaganda, hoping to deceive Nigerians into ignoring their suffering.

Senator Tambuwal’s intervention is not about politics—it is a patriotic duty to warn Nigerians that the current political trajectory poses a serious threat to democracy and national stability. Instead of engaging in character assassination, the APC must take responsibility for its failures and work towards real solutions to Nigeria’s crises.

Tambuwal is right: while politicians have the right to switch parties, today’s Nigeria does not present the APC as a credible alternative for good governance. Unlike in the past, when political realignment could be justified by ideological shifts, the APC of today offers nothing but propaganda, hardship, and broken promises.

Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. The challenges of economic collapse, insecurity, and rising public discontent demand genuine leadership, not political mudslinging. Senator Tambuwal’s call is a reminder that Nigerians deserve better—leaders who prioritise their welfare, policies that address real problems, and a democracy where opposition voices are respected, not stifled.

The APC must rise to the occasion by addressing Nigeria’s problems with sincerity and competence rather than attacking those who dare to speak the truth.

As one of the founding leaders of the APC, while still serving as SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal demonstrated an unassailable record of selflessness and patriotism in that promising collaboration for national salvation.

Regrettably, the endeavour was mismanaged by self-serving leaders who now promote STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE to lure weak souls looking for shelter from INFLATION and DECLINING PURCHASING POWER!
