The attempt by governorship candidates of two political parties in Enugu state, Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) to stop the inauguration of the Governor-elect and Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Mbah, as the Governor of the state on May 29 has been halted.
This followed the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s dismissal on Tuesday of the application seeking the stoppage of the inauguration and restraining Mbah from presenting himself for such purpose.
The candidates who participated in the March 18 governorship election and their parties had prayed to the Tribunal to stop the forthcoming inauguration and/or swearing-in of Mbah as the incoming Executive Governor of Enugu State.
Through their motion, brought by their counsel, Alex Amujiogu, urged the tribunal to make an interlocutory order of injunction restraining “the governor-elect, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah from presenting himself, for the purposes of being sworn in or inaugurated as the Executive Governor of Enugu State come May 29, 2023.”
But the Tribunal, ruling on the matter dismissed the application for lacking in merit, describing it as novel and one that needed to be tested.
