From Ifeoma Ejiofor

“NAUTH will become the best hospital in Nigeria,” the CMD, Dr. Ugboaja, reiterates as the College of Nursing & Midwifery holds its 23rd Matriculation & Capping ceremony.

Dr. Joseph Ugboaja (OON) has reiterated that his vision is to make the hospital the best in Nigeria and third in Africa.

He made these comments during the 23rd Matriculation & Capping ceremony of the College of Nursing & Midwifery of NAUTH held on Saturday, 15th July 2023, at Uzodike Auditorium.

The CMAC represented the CMD, Associate Prof Ogochukwu Ezejiofor, who said management would not relax until NAUTH becomes a world-class medical tourist center.

In line with the vision, the CMD said the hospital is procuring the necessary state-of-the-art equipment, which according to him, is backed up with training and retraining of staff as well as employment of qualified staff to operate various departments in the hospital.

Dr. Ugboaja said that the new management is also not going to relax until a very conducive environment for quality and qualitative healthcare delivery is achieved in NAUTH.

In all, two hundred and forty-seven students of the College of Nursing & Midwifery got capped by the institution.

The 23rd matriculation and capping ceremony attracted guests from within and outside Anambra State.

The Provost of the College, Dame Joy Aralu, noted that over four thousand students applied for the available one hundred spaces.

She said that the successful students who were enrolled and capped should see themselves as lucky.

Dame Aralu stressed that on that note, the chosen few should endeavor to continue to face their studies squarely so as not to disappoint themselves and their parents.

She said that the college had recorded tremendous achievements over the years through the support of the Board and hospital management. She noted that the college had maintained a lead in the results of the final professional qualifying examinations of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Prof Anthonia Chinweuba, the Guest lecturer at the occasion, spoke on “Our Nurses, Our Future; Improving Nursing Practice Through Education and ICT Synergy.

She stressed the need for improvement of nursing services through education to cope with the present reality as many patients are now knowledgeable about their health issues through social media opportunities and that any nurse or midwife who failed to key into the ICT to update knowledge and skills may be embarrassed by the patients.

His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu 111, the Royal Father of the day, prayed for the continued progress of NAUTH and the capped students.

The school authority recognized some outstanding students on the occasion and rewarded them with gifts.
